EHS GIRLS TENNIS: No. 3 doubles pair returning

The Hornets' No. 3 doubles team of Bedda Johnson and Gina Sanders returns to the court. Together, the pair have gone undefeated for two straight years and are likely to step into the No. 1 spot.

Enumclaw High’s girls tennis team lost four seniors to graduation – Anna Nelson, Lauren Redman, Julie Sanders and Breanna Pierce – who made up the Hornets’ top two doubles teams.

All four went to the state tournament with Nelson and Redman teaming up for a sixth-place finish.

Although the foursome leave a hole in the Hornets’ roster, it’s not gaping.

EHS also returns Rachel Holly and Alex Putnam, a district seed, at singles.

There are also a number of younger players who spent time on the court during the offseason who coach Rick Carel is eyeing to break into the lineup.

The Hornets’ biggest challenge of the season may be repeating as league champions. The addition of defending state champion Decatur to the South Puget Sound League 3A could be a damper for the EHS ladies who have tallied a 39-1 record for the past three seasons.
