The Enumclaw High volleyball team split a pair of matches, beating Sumner in four games Sept. 28 before losing at Auburn Mountainview two days later.

Unfortunately for Enumclaw, now 0-2 in league play, the win at Sumner was a nonleague game, but the setback to the Lions counted in the South Puget Sound League 3A standings.

Against the Spartans, Enumclaw won the opening game 25-16. Sumner sprung right back though, to beat the Hornets in game two 25-22. This retaliation only served to annoy the Hornets, who easily won games three and four by the scores of 25-19 and 25-18.

Gina Sanders, Enumclaw’s junior dynamo at setter, remained on task as she notched 36 assists against the Spartans. Sophomore HayleeMae Dennis and junior Katina Ferguson combined for 26 kills.

At Auburn Mountainview Sept. 30, the first three contests were all barn burners, as Enumclaw prevailed in the first one 25-23, lost the next one 25-22 and then persevered to take game three 25-23.

After that, the Hornets could only manage two unlucky 13s, as they fell in game four 25-13 and were edged out in the finale 15-13.

Senior hitter Jaime Emerson made her presence felt in the loss to the Lions with 25 digs. Jessica Decker and Dennis teamed up for 21 kills and Dennis contributed six blocks.
