EHS rally falls short vs. Lakes

In Enumclaw's SPSL 3A lid lifter against defending 3A state champion Lakes High last night at EHS's gym, a 45 point surge in the second half, didn't do the trick as the Hornets dropped to 0-1 in league action.

The rubber hit the road right away for the Enumclaw boys’ basketball squad, when it hosted Lakes High in its initial SPSL 3A encounter of the season and the Lancers confused a basketball game for a track meet as they jumped out to a 30-10 advantage after the first frame, running away and hiding to eventually hand Enumclaw its premiere league setback of the campaign, 80-69.

Enumclaw turned the tide significantly in the second half though, as it held the men in orange to a total of 28 points in the third and fourth quarters combined and engineered a second half comeback offensively as well, with solid scoring performances out of JR Condon (18) and senior backcourt ace Tony Chynoweth (17). The second half yield wasn’t nearly enough though as the winged warriors had dug themselves a 52-24 hole by intermission and the gap was simply to wide to make up.

Enumclaw will be hoping to even up its league mark at 1-1 when it welcomes the Seahawks of Peninsula High to its facility this Friday at 7 p.m. in its second SPSL 3A battle of the week.
