The Enumclaw Hornets got off to a slow start in prep soccer play, losing the first two games of the season.

The lone bit of good news is both were nonleague contests. That trend continued this week as the Hornets entertained Yelm at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The Hornets will open South Puget Sound League 3A play Tuesday with a trip to Decatur. The 3:30 p.m. contest will be at Federal Way Memorial Field.

Enumclaw’s loss No. 2 came Thursday night, under the lights on the White River campus. The EHS squad was unable to dent the net against White River keeper Kylie Englebert and a goal by Ashley Powell in the 49th minute sent EHS down to defeat.

Enumclaw’s season-opening loss came Sept. 6 in the form of a 2-1 setback to the Sumner Spartans. At Sunset Chev Stadium, the Hornets jumped on top early when Katy Armstrong scored an unassisted goal at the 12-minute mark.

The host Spartans tied the affair in the 22nd minute and received the game winner at 50 minutes.
