EHS SWIM AND DIVE: Bonthuis qualifies for state

The Enumclaw High girls swim team earned a second-place finish behind Peninsula Saturday at the South Puget Sound League 3A meet and qualified a couple more swimmers for the district meet Nov. 6 at Renton’s Hazen High.

The Enumclaw High girls swim team earned a second-place finish behind Peninsula Saturday at the South Puget Sound League 3A meet and qualified a couple more swimmers for the district meet Nov. 6 at Renton’s Hazen High. Diver Erica Bonthuis earned a spot at the state meet Nov. 11 and 12, breaking Kaycee Joubert’s 11-dive EHS record.

Bonthuis won diving with 337.10 points.

Katie Larrea and Carly Hinman will join teammate Bella Davenport in the 100-yard breaststroke at the district meet.

Larrea finished third. Davenport was right behind in fourth. Hinman, who finished sixth, earned her district qualifying time of in the preliminary race. Cassie Cook will go to districts in the 100 backstroke.

The Hornets will also take their 200 medley relay, which finished second, 200 freestyle relay, which was fourth, and 400 freestyle relay. Making up the medley relay are Cook, Davenport, Erin Stucker and Erin Wessel. Stucker and Wessel will be joined by Rachel Holston and Ali Ballard on the 200 freestyle relay. Ballard, Davenport, Holston and Hinman will swim the 400 freestyle relay.

Coach Ann Bettencourt is hoping the Hornets land a few wildcard spots.

Other EHS top finishers included: Ballard who placed second in the 200 freestyle. Teammates Holston and Carlie Cairnes were third and fourth. Ballard also was third in the 500 freestyle.

Davenport finished third in the 200 individual medley. Hinman placed third in the 100 butterfly, just ahead of teammates Stucker and Lori Lamm. Wessell was fourth in the 100 freestyle; Holston was sixth. Cook finished fourth in the 100 backstroke. Cairnes was right behind in fifth.

Wessel and Stucker finished seventh and eighth respectively in the 50 freestyle.
