EHS SWIM AND DIVE: EHS adds Hornet to state 3A meet

Enumclaw High sophomore Bella Davenport sprinted her way into the state swim and dive tournament Saturday night with a third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke.

She and diving teammate Erica Bonthuis, who qualified earlier during the league meet, will compete Friday and Saturday at the Class 3A state swim and dive championships at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Preliminaries are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday night with finals at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Saturday at the West Central District III 3A meet the top four, or those posting a state time, advanced. Davenport finished the finals at Hazen High in Renton in a time of 1 minute, 14.72 seconds. Davenport scored a faster time during Friday’s preliminaries with a 1:13.86.

Enumclaw’s 400 freestyle relay of Ali Ballard, Rachel Holston, Carly Hinman and Davenport came close to moving on with a fifth-place finish. The Hornets bettered their preliminary time by four seconds, but came up short of the No. 4 spot.

Enumclaw finished eighth overall at the district meet. Kennedy Catholic won the event with Hazen second. Decatur was the top South Puget Sound League 3A team, finishing fourth.
