EHS SWIM AND DIVE: Relay team, VanHoof lead Hornets

After the district swim championships, there wasn’t much change in who would represent Enumclaw High at the 3A state meet except for a few last-minute wildcard entries.

After the district swim championships, there wasn’t much change in who would represent Enumclaw High at the 3A state meet except for a few last-minute wildcard entries.

Preliminaries begin at 6:15 p.m. Friday with finals set for 6:30 Saturday at the King County Aquatic Center.

The 200-yard medley relay and Bennon VanHoof posted state times or top four finishes. The relay of Thomas Petersen, Travis Culp, VanHoof and Will Cooper finished second.

VanHoof, who finished sixth at state in 2010, goes again in the 100 breaststroke. He finished third Saturday.

The relay and VanHoof earned state spots earlier by meeting time standards.

VanHoof earned a spot in the 200 individual medley with a fourth-place finish.

David Kingman and Jesse Skipworth finished fifth and sixth and will dive at state.

Thomas Petersen, Cooper and the 400 freestyle relay earned wildcard entries, Petersen in the 100 backstroke with a sixth-place finish and Cooper in the 500 freestyle after finishing fifth. They joined Zach Petersen and VanHoof in the relay, which was eighth.

Enumclaw finished fifth.

Other top finishes were: Cooper, sixth, 100 butterfly; Logan Ross, fifth, 100 breaststroke; Ross, Gabe Sales, Zach Petersen and Culp, ninth, 200 freestyle relay; and Cory Larsen, 11th, 500 freestyle.

DeHan tops for WRHS

Pierce DeHan was White River High’s top finisher with seventh-place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyle.

He joined River and Elijah Cory and Seth Rickard on the 200 freestyle relay to finish eighth. Elijah Cory finished 10th in the 200 freestyle and Rickard was 10th in the 500 freestyle.

WRHS was 12th in 2A.
