EHS WATER POLO: Hornets add two more victories before state

The Enumclaw High boys water polo team improved its league record to 4-3 with wins over Kentridge and Stadium. The Hornets' overall record sits at 13-11 as they prepare to host Auburn Riverside in both team's final regular season game Thursday at the Enumclaw Aquatic Center. Game time is 4:30 p.m. Both teams will advance to the state tournament which begins Nov. 3. On Oct. 18, the Enumclaw squad beat a tough Kentridge team 16-15. The Hornets roared to a fast start, scoring three goals in the first 2 minutes – one each by Bennon VanHoof, Thomas Petersen and Mason Culp. Two more goals by Petersen and one by Will Cooper pushed the Hornet lead to 6-1 at the end of the first period.

The Hornets roared to a fast start, scoring three goals in the first 2 minutes – one each by Bennon VanHoof, Thomas Petersen and Mason Culp. Two more goals by Petersen and one by Will Cooper pushed the Hornet lead to 6-1 at the end of the first period.

VanHoof added two more in the second quarter and Bryce VanHoof and Carson Lanphere each score one to give EHS a 10-4 lead at halftime.

The Hornets had shot attempts from nearly every field player in the second half and scores by Bryce VanHoof, Seth Rickard, Quinn Warner, Gabe Sales and Cooper as the Hornets held on for the win.

Thursday, the Hornets beat Stadium 24-13.The Hornets scored seven goals in the opening quarter and added 10 in the second period, led by Petersen’s three goals, and scores by Cooper, Culp, BennonVanHoof and Sales.

Enumclaw scored 10 in the second period, led by Bennon VanHoof’s four goals. Cooper, Lanphere and Brandon Butler scored two each in the second quarter.

Enumclaw’s scoring slowed in the second half with only two goals in the third period – one each by Butler and Bennon VanHoof.

Four Hornets scored one goal apiece in the final quarter – Petersen, Cooper, Riley Sexton and Bryce VanHoof.Nine Hornets scored in Thursday’s victory.

Bennon VanHoof led all scorers with six goals. Petersen and Cooper scored four each; Butler scored three. Lanphere and Sales each added two and Sexton, Bryce VanHoof and Culp each scored a goal.
