EHS WATER POLO: State looms ahead for EHS

The Enumclaw High water polo team recouped from a 4-3 league loss to Auburn Thursday by beating up Puyallup, 12-5 in a nonleague contest Saturday.

Cory Larsen put the Hornets on the board with a fast break in the opening minute of play and Garrett Hall put them ahead. The Vikings answered, but Bennon VanHoof gave the Hornets a 3-1 edge at the end of the first period.

Goals by Mason Culp, Josh Musick and Gabe Sales pushed the Hornets to a 6-1 lead at halftime. EHS put the frosting on the cake with five goals in the fourth period.

VanHoof finished with four goals. Hall, Mason Culp and Musick added two each, and Larsen and Sales scored one.

The Hornets dropped a defensive battle and the league title to Auburn. The game started with 5 minutes of scoreless play before Auburn slipped one past Musick.

The Trojans went up 2-0 in the second quarter before Logan Ross put Enumclaw on the board. VanHoof tied the game 2 minutes into the third period, and EHS took the lead on a Hall goal. Auburn answered and went ahead 4-3. Neither team was able to score in the fourth.

The Hornet defense gathered 19 steals, led by Hall’s seven, and four by Musick. Musick also tallied 16 saves.

EHS picked up a 15-10 win over Stadium Oct. 19. The Hornets rattled off five goals in the first four minutes of play and turned it into a 9-5 lead at halftime.

VanHoof was high scorer with eight goals. Thomas Petersen scored two, and Hall, Travis Culp, Zach Petersen, Braden Dedrick and Sales each scored one. Goalkeeper Musick had 16 saves.

The Hornets finish the regular season at home Friday against Peninsula. Tipoff is 4:30 p.m.
