Enumclaw High graduate Jason Gray finished second at the National Junior College Athletic Association 2011 Wrestling National Championships Feb. 25 and 26 in Spokane.

Hosted by North Idaho College, Region 18 and the Spokane Regional Sports Commission, the tournament drew the top wrestlers from across the nation.

Gray, a two-time state champion for the Hornets who now wrestles for Highline Community College, was also named an all-American. He lost the 149-pound championship match 3-2 to Victor DeJesus of Iowa Lakes.

Fellow EHS teammate Casey Park, who placed third at regionals, also competed for the Thunderbirds at the national tournament.

White River High graduate Caleb Padgett, also a member of the Highline team, just missed all-American honors.

Highline finished 10th overall among the 36 community colleges and earned the national academic award for its combined team grade-point average of 3.28.

Sumner High graduates Tyler Wooding and Viktor Ognoskie also wrestled for the Thunderbirds at the national tournament.

Former Bonney Lake wrestler Nick Bendon was also there, suiting up for Southwestern Oregon.
