Enumclaw High waltzed through Saturday’s Dream Duals Tournament in Spokane with a 41-19 win over host East Valley of Spokane, a 69-12 victory over the Sedro Woolley All-Stars and a 40-22 victory over North Central.
At 3-0, the Hornets topped the five other 3A teams at the 22-team dual-match event. North Central of Spokane and Union finished behind EHS, followed by East Valley, Bellevue and the All-Stars.
Against East Valley, the Hornets got pins from Lucas Somera and D.J. Qualls, a technical fall from Hunter File, a major decision from Kyle Young and decisions from Steven Knapp, Colton Malek, Kario Wallin, Josh Musick, Jared Paul, Chase Mitchell and Cole Snider.
It was a pinfest for EHS against the All-Stars with Paul, File, Somera, Mitchell, Musick, Wallin, Malek and Knapp all picking up falls. Snider added five points with a technical fall and Kyle Young chipped in four with a major decision. Jeff Witse won his match after his opponent was disqualified and Qualls earned a win when his opponent pulled out with an injury.
In the Hornets’ win over North Center, Paul, Musick, Wallin and Knapp provided the pin power with additional points, by decision, from Bradley Young, Snider, File and Mitchell.
The Dream Dual title was icing on the cake that started with a 55-14 South Puget Sound League 3A victory over fourth-ranked Bonney Lake Jan. 20 and a league win, the Hornets’ 31st straight, over Franklin Pierce Thursday.
Thursday’s win over the Cardinals bumped the sixth-ranked Hornets to 7-0 in league with one match remaining. At 7 tonight, Wednesday, EHS will travel to Sumner.
Bonney Lake took a quick four-point lead with Josh Peart’s 14-2 decision at 145 pounds, but EHS’s Musick put the Hornets up with a first-round pin at 152. Wallin boosted EHS’s lead with a technical fall and the Panthers forfeited at 171 pounds.
Qualls scored a major decision at 189 to keep EHS on a role. Knapp added a 57-second pin at 215 to make it 27-4. Bonney Lake’s Jared Dorsey scored a 1-0 decision over Jeff Wiltse to give the Panthers’ three more points.
EHS’s Paul picked up a major decision at 103. Bonney Lake answered with a major decision at 112 before Enumclaw got four straight pins from Snider, File, Somera and Andrew Fox.
BLHS finished the scoring, with Nick Bendon topping Young 7-4 decision at 140 pounds.
