EHS/WRHS CROSS COUNTRY: Enumclaw sprints to SPSL 3A girls’ title

Both varieties of Plateau Hornets – the Enumclaw and White River species – winged their way to Auburn Oct. 14 for a three-team cross country meet hosted by the Auburn Mountainview Lions.

It was a particularly good day for the Enumclaw High girls, who defeated White River 22-38. Both EHS and White River took 15-50 decisions over an incomplete Lion crew.

On the boys side, White River defeated Enumclaw 24-31 but lost to Auburn Mountainview 26-29. The EHS boys were 0-2 on the day, falling to the Lions 26-30.

The Enumclaw girls had seven runners place in the top 10 to secure the twin wins.

Carissa Gwerder led the way, placing second overall with a time of 19 minutes, 48 seconds. Others figuring in the EHS scoring were Emily Eilertson, third place, 19:58; Chandler Weiman, fourth, 20:07; Sierra Myers, sixth, 20:26; and Julia Harris, seventh, 20:47.

White River was paced by overall winner Lauryn Wate, who cross the line in 19:37. She was joined by teammates Kelly Coyle, fifth place, 20:08; Kelsey Smith, ninth, 20:59; Christina Ramous, 21st, 22:40; and Dylan Fagan, 22nd, 23:10.

In the boys race, Enumclaw High’s Braden Timpe was the overall winner, clocking a time of 16:09. Others contributing to the EHS score were Ryan Weller, seventh, 16:56; Abe Kellogg, eighth, 17:08; Brandon Shook, 14th, 17:42; and Cory Johnson, 16th, 17:43.

White River’s boys were headed by Sterling Frye, who placed fourth overall with a time of 16:25. Kody Gould was fifth at 16:40; Marcus Dickson was sixth, 16:55; Shane Coyle, 10th, 17:19; and Clint Richardson, 13th, 17:29.

Last week’s meet wrapped up the regular season. Next up is Saturday’s subdistrict meet at Fort Steilacoom Park, which will advance the top six teams and 30 individuals to the Oct. 31 Westside Classic (district meet) at American Lake in Lakewood. From districts, the top eight teams and 40 individuals will move on to the Nov. 7 Class 3A state meet at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
