GYMNASTICS: Sumner, Bonney Lake compete at Auburn

Bonney Lake High had three gymnasts among the Top 10 in all-around competition and Sumner High added two, as the Panthers and Spartans competed in a four-team meet Jan 13.

Bonney Lake High had three gymnasts among the Top 10 in all-around competition and Sumner High added two, as the Panthers and Spartans competed in a four-team meet Jan 13.

Auburn Mountainview led the way in team scoring with 162.15 points, followed by the host Auburn Trojans with 144.90. Sumner placed third with 139.95 and Bonney Lake totaled 137.80.

In the all-around, Sumner’s Lisbet Fernandez was fourth overall and teammate Aja Ruswick placed sixth. For Bonney Lake, Sarah Skinner was fifth, Kelsi Potterf finished eighth and Alix Brown was ninth.

The top individual performer from the local schools was Brown, who scored an 8.5 on the way to winning the vault.

Also in the vault, Potterf and Sumner’s Marissa Gregg tied for third, Sumner’s Brian Wright was seventh and Skinner, Fernandez and Ruswick tied for ninth place.

In the bars, Brown was third, Bonney Lake’s Kelsey Wells Henderson was fourth, Ruswick was eighth and Potterf ninth.

On the beam, Potterf was third, Ruswick finished sixth and Skinner tied for 10th.

In the floor exercise, Skinner was fourth, Fernandez, fifth and Ruswick eighth.

The Spartans and Panthers will compete in another four-team meet at 7 tonight, Wednesday, at Emerald Ridge High School.
