Hornets post more district times

The Enumclaw High boys swim team posted more district times on its way to a 98-81 nonleague loss to Capital Thursday and then finished fifth to bring home a trophy from the Rogers Holiday Relays in Puyallup Saturday.

The Hornets were scheduled to travel to Auburn Mountainview Tuesday for the first of two straight South Puget Sound League 3A contests. Results of that meet were not available at press time. EHS then hosts Sumner at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in their final meet before winter break.

Against Capital, the 200-yard medley relay team of Greg Rufener, Shane Jackson, Josh Petersen and Pierce Beigh finished second with a district-qualifying time. The Hornets also scored a third-place finish in the same event from Gabe Sales, Tim Holston, Travis Culp and Garrett Hall.

Rufener won the 200 freesyle and 100 freestyle, both in district times.

Beigh raced to a district time in the 200 individual medley where he placed third.

Petersen also picked up a third-place finish and a district time in the 50 freestyle. He also finished second in the 100 butterfly.

Enumclaw’s Hall won the diving competition.

Jackson and Holston placed second and third, respectively, for EHS in the 500 freestyle. Beigh and Holston went two-three in the 100 breaststroke.

The 200 freestyle squad of Rufener, Jackson, Petersen and Beigh posted a district time as they cruised to the win. EHS’s team of Garrett Cyr, Ethan Ducken, Braden Dedrick and Adam Kelly finished third.

Sales raced to a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke.

Sales also saw a leg of the third-place 400 freestyle relay with teammates Sam Horn, Dedrick and Cyr.

The Hornets 200 medley relay, swimming four 50-meter legs took second at the Holiday Relays Saturday. The team, made up of Rufener, Jackson, Petersen and Beigh, posted a district time.

EHS competed against 12 teams at the relays – Auburn Mountainview, Auburn Riverside, Auburn, Bonney Lake, Curtis, Emerald Ridge, Kentridge, Kentwood, Puyallup, Rogers, South Kitsap and Todd Beamer.

The Hornets also scored a second-place finish in the 3×50 150 backstroke relay with Beigh, Rufener and Culp.

EHS put together a 200 freestyle sprint relay (8×25) with Ducken, Holston, Cyr, Kelly, Jeremy McCarthy, Logan or Tanner Ross, Horn and Dedrick, which finished third.

The 150 breastroke relay (3×50) of Beigh, Holston and Jackson took fourth. The 400 freestyle relay (8×50) of Ducken, Holston, Petersen, Rufener, Kelly, Ross, Culp and Horn also placed fourth.

The 400 freestyle relay (4×100) of Rufener, Jackson, Petersen and Beigh was fifth.

EHS’s 200 sophmore/freshman relay (4×50) made up of Culp, Horn, Ross and Johnathon Stapf was sixth and the 100 butterfly relay (3×50) finished ninth with Petersen, Jackson and Ross swimming.
