Panthers drop a pair of contests

Wins have come few and far between for the Bonney Lake Panthers this season.
The Panther boys dropped their 18th game of the season with a 63-54 overtime loss to White River in South Puget Sound League 3A action Feb. 3.
The Panthers managed to take a 26-23 edge into intermission, but White River came out in the third period and took a 42-38 lead.
Bonney Lake, behind Nathan Braun’s game-high 26 points, outscored the Hornets, 11-7, in the final period and forced the game into overtime, 49-49.
In OT, White River held the Panthers’ offense to five points while tossing in 14.
Kenneth Thomas led the Hornets with 21 points and Nolan Gibson netted 20.
Lawrence Williams added 13 for Bonney Lake, which fell to 1-18 overall and 0-15 in the league standings.
In a back-and-forth battle, Franklin Pierce managed to pull off a 65-58 win over the Panthers Feb. 3.
The Cardinals went up 12-8 in the first period, but Bonney Lake outscored FP in the second, 22-15, for a 30-27 lead.
Franklin Pierce outscored the Panthers, 24-15, in the following period for a four-point lead. Down 51-47 in the final stanza, Bonney Lake was unable to regain the lead in the closing minutes.
Three Panthers scored in double figures. Williams scored a game-high 17, Petey Peterson hit for 12 and Braun added 10.
The Panthers close out the regular season at Sumner Friday night.
