Schwarts takes third for SPU
Seattle Pacific University gymnasts put up a season-best team total for the third time in four weeks, but fell short of University of California-Davis Friday at SPU.
SPU dipped from third to No. 6 in the recent national ratings that determine the field for the United States Association of Gymnasts collegiate championships. The Falcons are vying for their 28th consecutive championship meet appearance.
Senior Brianna Schwartz (Bonney Lake/Sumner High) has been SPU’s top all-arounder in all five meets this season. She did so again Friday despite being limited in practices leading up to the meet.
Schwartz compiled a third-place all-around total of 37.70 with scores of 9.60 (vault), 9.65 (bars), 9.225 (beam) and 9.225 (floor).
SPU is on the road at Illinois-Chicago Friday and at UC Davis Feb. 20. The next home match for the Falcons is 7 p.m. Feb. 24 with Eastern Michigan.
