Franklin Pierce used a 17-2 run the final period to pull out a 51-31 South Puget Sound League 3A win over the visiting Sumner Spartans Thursday night in girls basketball action.

Neither team could get untracked offensively as the Cardinals took an early 11-8 lead. Sumner tied the score at 19 at halftime before the Cardinals regained the edge in the third.

Ashley Delany led Sumner with seven points.

Sumner fell to 5-13 overall and 3-11 in the league standings. Now sitting seventh in the league standings, the Spartan girls will not advance to subdistrict play.

On Feb. 3, the Spartans fell to the Lake Lancers 51-39 at home.

Lakes had a six-point lead in the first period and Sumner was unable to cut into the Lancers’ margin.

Angie Wagner-Sanchez tossed in a game-high 23 points for the Spartans.

Sumner will close out the season Friday at home against Bonney Lake.
