Smith wins match against SFU

Enumclaw High graduate and a state high school champion Chase Smith scored a 13-0 major decision of Matt Yanigiya of Simon Fraser Thursday night in a wrestling match between the University of Wyoming and British Columbia’s NAIA Simon Fraser University at Auburn’s Vision Quest Sport and Fitness Club.

UW won the match 42-0. Wyoming’s season dual record is now 10-2, 2-0 in the Western Wrestling Conference.

Smith is wrestling at 149 pounds.

Other Wyoming wrestlers with Washington roots who wrestled were: Dallas Hintz from Ephrata, Shane Onufer from Auburn and junior Cory VomBaur from Evergreen of Vancouver. Hintz, Onufer and Smith are all redshirt freshmen with the Cowboy program. Freshman Eric Jones, who is redshirting this season and did not make the trip, is from Lake Tapps.
