The news coming out of the Bonney Lake wrestling camp went from bad to good.

Jan. 14, the Panthers traveled to Auburn Mountainview, where they lost to the Lions 39-29 in a South Puget Sound League 3A dual match.

Thursday, when Lakes’s grapplers came to the friendly confines of the Panther den, Bonney Lake was hitting on all cylinders and whipped the Lancers 62-12 to bump its league mark to 3-2.

The initial weight plucked from the hat to start the show was 171 pounds, where Bonney Lake’s David Vance racked up six quick points for the Panthers by pinning his foe 1 minute, 26 seconds into the second round. Then, BLHS reeled off 16 more points as Lakes forfeited at 189 pounds to Jordan Schultz, Sam Mebarki, 215, tossed his opponent around like a rag doll then pinned him at 39 seconds and Jared Dorsey, who was wrestling up a weight at 275 pounds, recorded an 11-1 major decision.

Lakes made an effort to come back at the lighter weights, but the Bendon brothers, Pat, via a five-point technical fall (17-2) at 125 pounds and Nick at 135 pounds with a 56-second pin, put the Panthers ahead 33-12.

BLHS expanded its margin of victory, winning the next four matches. Josh Peart managed a pin at 140 pounds as did freshman Jake Lueders at 145 pounds and Evan Dorsey at 160 pounds. Sandwiched between the three falls at 152 pounds was senior standout Addison Tracy (27-0), who only needed two rounds to notch a 15-0, five-point technical fall.
