Sincraugh shines as bright spot for Spartans

The Sumner Spartans were among 25 boys and girls track and field teams participating in the Kent-Meridian Invitational Saturday at French Field in Kent.

The Sumner Spartans were among 25 boys and girls track and field teams participating in the Kent-Meridian Invitational Saturday at French Field in Kent.

In the girls’ division, Sumner finished 19th with 10 points and the boys placed 21st with 8.5 points.

The girls portion of the meet was won by Tahoma and the boys section was won by host Kent-Meridian.

SPSL neighbor Enumclaw girls finished third and boys were fourth. White River boys were fifth and the girls were ninth.

The bright spot for the Sumner girls was the third-place finish of Ashlee Sincraugh, who clocked a time of 1 minute, 3.11 seconds in the 400-meter run.

Karly Dedman finished seventh in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.18 and Stefani Castile was eighth in the 1,600 meters at 5:45.87.

The 4×200 relay team of Leah DeDominas, Taylor Hobert, Jessica Vandergiessen and Leah Engelhardt took eighth in 1:56.92.

On the boys’ side, Alex Griffin took second in the discus with a throw of 139 feet. Grant Stevens was eighth in the pole vault at 11 feet.

The Spartans will step away from the track during spring break and plan to return to action with back-to-back road meets. The Spartans are at Peninsula April 16 and at Yelm April 17. Both meets are scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
