With two champions each, Enumclaw and White River high wrestling teams finished fifth and sixth, respectively, at Saturday’s 14-team White River Classic.
Enumclaw slid into the No. 5 spot with 148 points with host White River right behind with 132 points. Defending Class 1A state champion Orting won the tournament with 185 points and four champions. Sunnyside was second, while Yelm, the defending 3A title holder, finished third with Bonney Lake fourth.
Enumclaw had two champions Tyke Reid at 112 pounds and Josh Musick at 152. Musick was also named the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler Over 140 Pounds. Musick picked up his third-straight fall on the night during the title round, pinning Bonney Lake’s Tyler Hernandez in 27 seconds.
Reid, who earned his spot in the finals with a pin and a technical fall, also won the crown with a fall. Austin Dodson of Orting served as his victim, falling in the opening 1:22 of action.
White River’s Austin Shirey scored a 5-3 decision over Bonney Lake’s Jeremy Sabin for the 140-pound crown. Shirey earned his way into the title with a pin and 10-2 and 8-5 decision.
Dave Meagher capped the night with the heavyweight title. After earning his way into the finals with a pair of pins, the White River Hornet outlasted Levi Carroll of Everett for a 4-1.
Both Hornet teams put another wrestler in the finals.
Enumclaw’s Colton Malek was second at 189 pounds, dropping a close 3-1 decision to Del Toro of Curtis. White River’s 215-pound Jeff Kisner battled Grandview’s Adam Morales of Grandview to a 4-all tie in regulation before giving up 2 points in overtime.
White River wrestlers Tony Tyler, 152 pounds, and Noah Geehan, 171, finished third, while Trevor Kurtz, 112, Carl Klein, 119, and Travis Morris, 171, were fifth.
For Enumclaw, Marcus Nichols, 145, Jon Siguhara, 152, Kario Wallin, 160, and Chris Williams, heavyweight, were third.
Travis Reano and Cole Snider, both 130, and Cody Chiebowski, heavyweight, were fifth.
Both Enumclaw and White River also participated in Thursday’s Graham-Kapowsin takedown tournament.
Enumclaw kicks off South Puget Sound 3A league action tonight, Wednesday, at home with Bonney Lake, and then heads to the Sedro Woolley Invitational Saturday, while White River heads into the SPSL 2A season Thursday, hosting Eatonville, and then travels to Bonney Lake for the Panther Invitational Saturday.
