Sumner’s cross country teams finished their regular conference season against White River High School at Orting High’s course.
The girls defeated the Hornets 22-34. Abi Hensler ran another first place race with a time of 20 minutes, 53 seconds. Natasha Wilson took third with 22:23, and Kiana Achi ninth with 24:50.
The girls finished in South Puget Sound League 2A with a 6-1 record.
The boys lost a close 25-30 race against the Hornets.
“Two meets in a row our varsity boys have been asked to really focus and work even harder, and they continue to impress,” coach Kristin Chapman said.
Arturo Perez came in third with a 17:37, followed by Jordan Landes in fifth with 18:09, Nate Weber sixth with 18:22, and Josh Goodsell seventh at 18:23.
The boys team also finished in conference 6-1.
Conference season is over, but competition continues. The Spartans’ next race is Oct. 20 at Ft. Steilacoom Park. The boys team is presently in a three-way tie for the league title going into sub-districts.
