The Sumner fastpitch softball team defeated Steilacoom 9-7 Tuesday afternoon in conference play.

Sumner took two runs in the first inning, one in the third, three in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth. Steilacoom took five runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Nicolle Peterson went to bat four times and connected with the ball twice. She hit a double and ran to home plate herself once.

On the mound, Allie Sims struck out the Sentinels 11 times.

The Spartans are scheduled to play Fife away Thursday.
