Spartans edge out Cardinals 63-55 | Sumner Boys Basketball

Sumner's boys basketball team brought their conference record closer to even, taking a 63-55 win against the Franklin Pierce Cardinals Tuesday night. The Spartans now have a 4-5 record in South Puget Sound League 2A, and an 8-6 record overall.

Sumner’s boys basketball team brought their conference record closer to even, taking a 63-55 win against the Franklin Pierce Cardinals Tuesday night. The Spartans now have a 4-5 record in South Puget Sound League 2A, and an 8-6 record overall.

The Spartans took their lead early on, going 18-17, 18-13 and 13-9 in the first three quarters. The Cardinals rallied in the final quarter and earned 16 points to their opponents 14, but the last ditch effort wasn’t enough to cover the gap.

The Cardinals’ Michael Dupree and Isaiah Sutherlan-Ballard were the shooting stars of the night, making 17 and 16 points respectively. However, their third-best shooter topped out at six, and the mode point count per player was 3.

Spartan Riley Bruil scored 14 points, but the mode points shot by Spartans was eight, strengthening their scoring overall.

The Spartans play Steilacoom Friday night at Sumner High School.
