The Sumner fastpitch softball team lost 3-1 to the White River Hornets Tuesday afternoon.

The Spartans scored their run in the third inning. The Hornets scored two runs in the first inning and one in the third.

Allie Sims went to bat three times and connected with the ball twice. She hit a triple and ran to home plate once herself.

On the mound, Sims pitched six innings and struck out the Hornets 11 times.

The Spartans play Franklin Pierce in conference play Thursday.
