Spartans play Wenatchee Friday after rained out week | Sumner Baseball

The Spartans defeated the Steilacoom Sentinels 10-0 in a Monday matchup, the first of its regular South Puget Sound League 2A season.

Sumner’s baseball team is gearing up for its preseason away game against Wenatchee today, Friday, at 5 p.m.

The Spartans have been rained out for most of the week. A Wednesday crosstown rivalry exhibition against Bonney Lake was rescheduled for April due to inclement weather. A Tuesday repeat game against Steilacoom suffered a similar fate, being rescheduled for Wednesday, then Thursday, before Thursday’s cancellation moved it to March 20.

The Spartans defeated the Steilacoom Sentinels 10-0 in a Monday matchup, the first of its regular South Puget Sound League 2A season.

Both teams had a slow start, earning no runs in the first two innings. But the Spartans shook out of their early funk, taking four runs in the third and again in the fourth. They earned a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings, tying the afternoon’s events up neatly in their favor.

Sumner’s Tysen Fischlen went to bat four times, connecting with the ball three times. He earned a 3-RBi and hit one double. He stole a base once.

On the mound, Christian Parson pitched five innings and struck out 12 players. Johnny Staley pitched one inning and struck out three players.
