Senior All-Stars win District 10

With just two players returning from last season’s squad, the Kent-Chinook Little League Senior All-Stars won the District 10 title for the second straight year June 30 at Auburn’s Brannan Park.

The 14- to 16-year-olds from Kent and Enumclaw won three of four games including rebounding from an early 6-1 loss to Soundview/Steel Lake. In a form of justice, the Kent-Enumclaw squad opened the championship game with an explosive five-run first inning and cruised to an 8-1 victory over Soundview/Steel lake for the District 10 title.

The team also posted tournament wins over Soundview and Federal Way.

The senior team now moves on to the state tournament Saturday through July 24 at Redmond’s Hartman Park.

Driving program raises $3,460

Ford Motor Company and Fugate Ford Mercury partnered to help raise $3,460 for White River High basketball as part of Ford’s Drive One 4 UR School program.

The May 8 event brought in 173 participants to test drive a Ford or Mercury vehicle. Ford and Fugate Ford Mercury donated $20 for each driver.

“We were excited to see so many people show up in support of White River High School,” said Gloria Perry, a manager at Fugate Ford Mercury. “The event also gave us a chance to showcase our outstanding lineup of vehicles in a fun, casual environment.”

“Fundraising is especially hard during a tough economy,” said Chris Gibson, White River athletic director. “We’re so thankful to our Ford, Fugate Ford Mercury and the public for their support.”
