Former White River High School soccer standout Emily Rhoades was recently selected as the South Atlantic Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week.

She is a sophomore at Newberry College in South Carolina.

The Buckley resident recorded her third and fourth shutouts of the season against Limestone College on Sept. 9 and the University of North Alabama on Sept. 11. Rhoades made three saves in the 1-0 win over Limestone and had eight in a 1-0 victory over North Alabama.

Before Rhoades’ blanking of 18th-ranked North Alabama, the Lions had scored 24 goals in five games. Newberry handed UNA its first loss of the season with the shutout.

Rhoades leads the SAC in shutouts, with four in six matches. She is also tied for fourth in saves with 23 and maintains a goals-against average of 0.18.

With five shutouts last year, Rhoades now has earned nine for her career, which puts her in second place all-time at Newberry. She stands four shutouts short of tying Bobby Gainey’s career best mark of 13, set from 1996 to 1999.
