Sumner High soccer player Jaylin Borden was honored as an Athlete of the Week by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association. The announcement was made Sept. 30.

Each week throughout the school year, the WIAA recognizes 12 varsity athletes, a male and a female from each of the six classifications, who exhibited an outstanding performance for the previous week.

Borden, a freshman, was nominated by a community member and selected by WIAA staff for the weekly honor. A midfielder, she blasted two goals and had an assist during a pair of Spartan victories.

In recognition of their accomplishment, each Athlete of the Week receives a congratulatory letter from WIAA Executive Director Mike Colbrese, a commemorative WIAA State Athlete of the Week T-shirt and a certificate.

Winners are also posted to the WIAA website at www.wiaa.com.
