Sumner School District Athletic Director Tim Thomsen was named the 2009 Washington Secondary School Athletic Administrators Association Athletic Director of the Year at the organization’s state conference April 5-8 in Spokane.

Thomsen, West Central District III Athletic Director of the Year, competed for the honor with eight others representing the nine Washington Interscholastic Activities Association districts.

Also at the conference, Enumclaw High Athletic Director Tim Tubbs was awarded an Athletic Directors Service Award.

Tubbs, who was a coach at Enumclaw High for a number of years before taking over the reins as athletic director, said, “I am honored and humbled by the generous attention afforded to me by those folks who took the time to make a statement on my behalf. I am inspired to serve these coaches and athletic directors. They motivate me to strive toward outstanding performance. Simply by my association with them, I have been granted this Outstanding Service Award. I am very grateful.”

The award was created to recognize athletic directors who have made a significant contribution at the school, league, regional, or state level in any year.

Nominees must have made a positive contribution impacting the management of athletic programs at the league, district or state level through one or more of the following: promotion of student athletes or coaches, personnel/facility management/community issues, Title IX or gender equity issues and exemplifying creative inspiration/motivation to others.
