White River High’s volleyball squad hosted Timberline in a nonleague affair Thursday, giving the Blazers quite a tussle before going down to defeat 3-2.

After dropping the first game 25-21, the Hornets came zooming back to collect 25-19 and 25-17 victories and had an undefeated Timberline contingent on the ropes.

Timberline woke up and retaliated to claim game four 25-16, forcing the sudden death overtime test, which the Blazers won 17-15.

Despite the defeat, which made White River’s record 0-5 overall, White River did itself proud in the stats department as Kelsi Tyler had 27 kills, Jailyn VanSickle had 41 assists and the team combined for 12 aces.

White River, which had yet to play a league match as of last weekend, will now play nothing but league matches.

The Hornets got the league tilt festival started Monday when they traveled to Franklin Pierce, with the results of that contest coming too late to include here.
