Saint Martin’s University women’s basketball coach Tim Healy has announced the signing of five incoming freshmen to national letters of intent, including White River High’s Brooke Paulson.

Saint Martin’s University women’s basketball coach Tim Healy has announced the signing of five incoming freshmen to national letters of intent, including White River High’s Brooke Paulson.

Paulson’s 16.3 points per game garnered her second-team all-state honors her senior year. She twice received league Most Valuable Players honors and finished her high school career with 1,279 points. She was a four-year member of coach Chris Gibson’s varsity squad and was a three-year starter.

“We are really happy to sign Brooke in this late signing period,” Healy said. “Brooke can flat out score. She seems to find a way to get points every time she plays. She can shoot from the outside, has a good mid-range game and draws lots of fouls with her dribble attacks. And, perhaps her biggest strength is that she loves to compete.”

The Saints’ other signees were MacKenzie Taylor, the state’s Class 1A Player of the Year from Freeman, Wash.; Lauren Tigue, a 6-foot post player out of Juan Diego Catholic High in Draper, Utah; Angela Gelhar from Brush Prairie High who averaged 12.6 points last season and was a three-time all-league pick; and Jordyn Richardson, a 5-9 guard who averaged 12 points per game during her senior season.

Like Paulson, Gelhar and Richardson were second-team all-state selections.

The Saints finished the 2010-11 season fifth in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, posting a record of 15-12 overall and 10-8 in conference play.
