Despite a relatively small roster signed up so far, the Bonney Lake High boys swim team has high hopes for the upcoming season.

The Panthers will be led this year be senior captains Jonah Howard and Nathan Scott. Howard swims in the butterfly and freestyle races while Scott is one of the squad’s distance swimmers.

Coach Jay Paulson said other top returners include Cameron Gehrke in the 200 individual medley and the butterfly, Dominic Lieggi in freestyle sprints and Josh Weaver in the breaststroke.

Paulson said new swimmers Tyler Tangen and Sam Dividson are showing a lot of promise in early practices.

Divers Gary Flygare and Issac Edwards are also both returning and Paulson said the pair are already showing improvement over last year and are hard at work learning the harder degree of difficulty dives required for competition in the district and state meets.

In addition, Paulson expects new divers Scott Jackson and Cody Breslin to be able to compete at the varsity level very soon.

The Bonney Lake swim season gets under way at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Lakes High School. The team’s first home meet is scheduled for Dec. 15 against Sumner High.
