Sumner High’s young wrestling team continued its quest for its initial mat victory last week and again came up empty handed, losing 59-22 at Lakes High School.

Coach Jeremy Horsley cited 160-pound senior Alex Bricker as one of the week’s top performers. Bricker won a 13-1 major decision over Lakes’ Joe Harper, just before Sumner 171-pounder Matt Wilson collected a six-point forfeit.

Sumner took six of its finest Saturday to the nearby Bonney Lake Classic.

Competing were Anthony Martin, Jeremy Jackson, Cole Leper, Andre Sloan, Bricker and freshman 140-pounder Zach Wooding, who Horsley lauded as, “very rapidly showing signs of definite improvement, being as he is from a wrestling family.”

Sumner will again look for a league win when it butts heads with a tough Peninsula squad tonight, Wednesday, in front of a home crowd.
