Coming off a  winning season in 2010, the White River High girls tennis team plans to keep it going.

The Hornets are moving from the South Puget Sound League 3A ranks to the competitive 2A league.

“We will see a few teams that we have never played, so we are looking forward to the challenge,” coach Jason Swaser said.

The season begins Monday at home with Enumclaw in a nonleague contest.

Swaser said turnout, even though the weather has been cold and rainy, has been good and he looks forward to developing the young talent. Part of that development will be establishing a C-team.

That’s not to say the Hornets didn’t have losses. Five seniors graduated, but junior Courtney Hall returns with the experience of wins during the district tournament.

Senior Kelli Hoffman is also returning looking for a singles spot this year.

The Hornets also welcome back letterwinners Heidi Lyons, a senior, and Taylor Wombacher, a sophomore.

Also returning to the program are Lani Kauhi, Shelby Dickinson, Audrey Fravel, Ashley Gibson, Kaitlyn Johnson, Riley Norris-Burley, Christina Ramous and Annie Shindle.

White River will be without sophomore Katie Durant, due to injury.
