WR’s Hawthorne picked for athletics, community service

Gabe will receive his honors with the Seahawks on Nov. 15 before their game with the Packers.

Gabe Hawthorne of White River High School was named a CenturyLink High School Athlete of the Week and will be recognized on the football field during the Nov. 15 game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers.

Hawthorne, a junior wrestler at White River, was selected based on his leadership through athletics, academics and community action. He was one of two Hornet wrestlers earning a state title last season. As a Running Start student, he is on track to graduate from high school with an associate of arts degree in chemistry and biology. He maintains a 3.99 grade-point average and was chosen last summer to attend the Marine Corps Character Development and Leadership Academy in Virginia. He also has a passion for helping young athletes and has dedicated more than 200 hours to coaching and mentoring new and beginning wrestlers at the White River Wrestling Club. He also volunteers weekly at the White River Communities and Activities Program, a program dedicated to providing safe and affordable before and after school care for children. After graduation, he hopes to attend the United States Naval Academy.

Aside from being recognized both at school and during a Seahawks game, each winner will receive a $1,000 grant to their school’s athletic department from the Seahawks. Winners also receive tickets and sideline passes to a Seahawks game, a customized football, and a customized 2018 Seahawks jersey.
