WRHS BOYS TENNIS: Hornets win pair

A 3-2 win over Peninsula High Sept. 30 and another over Yelm Friday kept the Hornets on the winning side as postseason approaches.

A 3-2 win over Peninsula High Sept. 30 and another over Yelm Friday kept the Hornets on the winning side as postseason approaches.

The 6-4 Hornets were scheduled to travel to Bonney Lake Monday. Results of both those contests were not available at press time, but can be found at cmg-northwest2.go-vip.net/courierherald. The Hornets host Auburn Mountainview today, Wednesday, travel to Sumner Friday and close out the regular season Monday by hosting Enumclaw. Match time for all three is 3:30 p.m.

White River’s three doubles teams were winners against Peninsula.

Steve Root and Cameron Sautner won 6-2, 6-4. Mike Baron and Dillon Meyers won 6-1, 6-1 and Tanner Williams and Josh Milles won 6-2, 6-2.

The Hornets lost a 4-0 contest Sept. 28 to Lakes with the No. 3 doubles match called early due to rain.

In the Hornets’ 3-2 win over Yelm, Will Whitaker won his first set 6-3, dropped the second 6-4 and took the third 6-3. The Hornets’ doubles teams of Sautner and Root and Meyers and Baron were also winners. Sautner and Root swept the set after a tiebreaker and Meyers and Baron split a pair of tiebreakers before winning the final set 6-3.
