SATURDAY NIGHT: Wine Walk undergoes changes

One of Sumner’s annual events is changing its theme.

One of Sumner’s annual events is changing its theme.

For years, the Sweetheart Wine Walk on Main Street coincided with the week of Valentine’s Day and became a local activity for couples, but this year its theme is more general.

Sumner Downtown Association Executive Director Arla Holzschuh said the participating businesses chose to change the theme in order to provide a more welcoming environment to everyone, not just couples.

Participating in the wine walk are 28 businesses. The businesses are represented in 17 locations, because The Attic is hosting 12 of them.

“All 28 are members of the association,” Holzschuh said.

She said it’s important for the association to showcase its businesses.

The cost is $20 per person and includes a wine glass, six taste tickets and an event passport. Participants whose passports are stamped from the 17 participating venues are eligible for a grand prize drawing.

Berryland Cafe is providing snacks and coffee will be available.

Wine is served on a different schedule this year, from 4 to 7:30 p.m.

“We are reducing the amount of time so we don’t have problems with overserving,” Holzschuh said.

Holzschuh said people can register online at www.sumnerdowntown.com.

“If people register online, then they will be able to pick their packets up at a will call area and it avoids standing in line,” she said.
