Bonney Lake’s season came to an unfortunate end yesterday evening following a 4-3 loss to Meadowdale High School at Edmonds Stadium.
The Bonney Lake High soccer team advanced to the state’s Sweet 16 Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over the Wilson Rams.
The shutout against the Tacoma school came at Burien’s Highline Stadium.
The Panther victory was sparked by the shutout goaltending of Madi Lowry and a hat trick by Madi Adams. The only goal needed came just two minutes into the contest when Adams scored off an assist by Emily Richmond. Her second goal came at 36 minutes and the final tally was in the 63rd minute.
The win improved Bonney Lake’s season record to 16-2-0 and pushed the Panthers into the Class 3A state tournament for the second consecutive year. A season ago, Bonney Lake advanced to the championship game before falling short.
The Panthers’ state tournament opener begins at 7 tonight, Wednesday, against Meadowdale High. The game will be played at Edmonds Stadium. The loser is done for the season while the winner advances to the state’s Elite Eight.
Bonney Lake had entered postseason play Nov. 2, paired against fellow South Puget Sound League 3A foe Peninsula High. The game offered little in the way of drama, as the Panthers won 6-0. In three meetings with the Seahawks this season, Bonney Lake dominated, outscoring Peninsula 15-0.
In the Nov. 2 contest, the Panthers received three goals from Adams and one each from Lindsey Hanbidge, Alicia Bowman and Jessyka Seger.
