Both the left and the right are the problem — and solution

We must start listening to each other.

Editor’s note: This letter is in response to the letter, “Elfers’ views don’t reflect Enumclaw,” published Feb. 10.

Mr. Arnold, I do not always agree with Mr. Elfers views, but sometimes I do and other times I can at least see his point. Sometimes I even learn something new.

I do not believe your view of Enumclaw as being an only conservative city is even close to the case. I am a moderate liberal. Five out of six of my closest neighbors are also moderate liberals. That is quite a few in a small area. Surely there are others, in other neighborhoods.

There are two views of every issue. I believe it would be a shame to lose Rich Elfers as a commentator. I do not believe he targets any particular group of people. His articles are often his opinion and he is certainly entitled to that. He often opens my eyes to views that are actually opposite to my own, and gives me food for thought. I prefer to learn about both sides of an issue, rather than refusing to try to understand the views of others.

Frankly, I am sick of conservatives making me a villain for what I believe. I try hard not to vilify conservatives, some of them are even my friends. So, my request? To keep Rich Elfers as a commentator. And while I am at it, keep Daisy Devine as well, she has some really good points for such a young person. And please understand, both sides are responsible for the current problems of our society and both sides can be part of the solutions. If only we would just try listen to each other.
