Boycott of Arizona is wrong approach

Editor’s note: the following letter was addressed to members of the Seattle City Council.

I am very disappointed in your decision to boycott the state of Arizona. Arizona is trying to do what the federal government should have been doing all along. Our government – the U.S. government and now apparently our local governments – are not listening to the people or even reading the bill (which is appalling in and of itself).

If you are in our country illegally (and breaking a law), you should be deported. I guarantee, if you go to another country illegally (and are breaking a law as well), and happen to get caught, the government of that country won’t say, “It is OK to stay.” You will be shipped right back to where you came from or worse. If you want to come to our country, do it legally.

I live in Enumclaw but am in Arizona right now taking care of my sick mother. I’ve been visiting Arizona for 27 years now and know what it is like first-hand. This whole boycott business is disturbing and disgusting. Wake up and get involved at the federal level to effect change.
