Director says he had option: resign or be fired

This letter is intended to clarify my abrupt, recent resignation as parks and recreation director for the city of Enumclaw. The statement by Mike Thomas that he was “surprised” by my departure is puzzling and disappointing to me.

On June 9, 4 p.m., City Administra-tor Mike Thomas came (to) my office at the Expo Center and presented me with the option of resignation or termination. While no explanation was offered, I concluded that I was branded as being too closely associated to the John Wise administration. This perception attracted a great deal of scrutiny from the new administration for the last six months.

Mayor Reynolds acted within her authority to ask for my resignation. I respect the mayor’s desire to set a new course for the Parks Department. While I am sad to leave the community of Enumclaw that has grown dear to me over the last five years, I look forward to my next career challenge.

Thank you, Enumclaw. It is with great love and respect that I say to you, “Happy Trails!”
