Government is heading rapidly toward socialism

I keep seeing, on the Internet and in newspapers (including The Courier-Herald), socialist writings urging people to, “… look up Socialism in the dictionary …” apparently because they believe it is what we already have as our government. They argue that obvious examples of socialism include the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. This often-seen appeal drove me to look up socialism in the highly-respected American Heritage Dictionary. Here is what it says, and I quote; “A social system in which the producers possess both political power and the means of producing and distributing goods.”

I see nothing about the military services in this definition. The socialist-leaning among us lie again. It simply defines a system that controls production and distribution.

However, I would agree we are headed in that direction as our government takes over the automobile production in this country and controls banking. What is next? Perhaps oil production.

At the bottom of the dictionary page I noticed another interesting definition. “Socialized Medicine” was defined as, “The provision of medical and hospital care for the people at nominal cost by means of government regulation of health services and subsidies derived from taxation.” This seems to be another socialist vector we see in our government.
