It’s time to stand up, fight for labor’s gains

“The labor movement was the principal force that transformed misery and despair into hope and progress. Out of its bold struggles, economic and social reform gave birth to unemployment insurance, old-age pensions, government relief for the destitute and, above all, new wage levels that meant not mere survival, but a tolerable life. The captains of industry did not lead this transformation; they resisted it until they were overcome.”

Martin Luther King Jr.,

October 1965

All across this country, hard-working people are under attack. It is labor that has fought and died in battles with American industry. It is labor that has forced American businesses to pay its workers a living wage, to provide relief from the ravages of unemployment and to ensure that workers could retire from the workplace with dignity and respect.

A time has come to stand up, be counted, and ensure that our lives and the lives of our children are not destroyed by the greedy oligarchs and their representatives in Congress.

Resist.
