When we hear of “Congress” and “The Supreme Court” our awareness engages both the institution and the members.
Each is both an environment, a setting, exhibiting a collective character, and also, a group of individual characters. The House of Representatives is the only institution of a true Democracy we have when considered by the definition.
A true Democracy is where all citizens are allowed to vote on every issue, whether those citizens are guided by reason or opinion is immaterial; essentially it is rule by a mob. And that is what the House of Representatives is; although the members are representative of their constituents, their qualification to be seated is entirely based on the rational or irrational reasoning of the citizens. The House of Representatives is only a cacophony of the voices of a mob.
Now consider the Senate, or what used to be the Senate. Currently it is only a duplicitous institution representing the chaos of the mob.
Originally, to be a Senator it was required to be a landowner. Unfortunately, the mob complained about “rich people” and the standard was lowered so the mob would not rebel, but what really occurred was, as the rulers were already suffering from the same disease of the entire country, the eroding of reason, they acquiesced and intellect was allowed to erode.
The erosion continued, and today, erudition is almost totally non-existent, replaced with single syllable emotive words expressing the feelings of a self-defeated populace.
The mob continues to complain about the material benefits of the wealthy while completely ignoring what true wealth is. This degradation of language is a symptom of a civilization in decline.
The ability to own land indicated one who possessed a degree of proficiency of the Virtues. Virtues are synonymous with a philosophy that assumes the term “Human” indicates one capable of Reason, and Self-Actuation, a degree of Wisdom capable of discerning what is Good, True and truly Beautiful both in Life, in Creation, and in the Soul; individuals capable of being true pillars of the community.
Many are living in a paradigm of temporal values that must inevitably erode when life is ended.
