Letter to the Editor: Just because you’re offended doesn’t mean you’re owed an apology

Reader Jim Holyan comes to the defense on a recent column about Christianity and House Speaker Rep. Johnson.

Kristopher Galvan’s letter to the editor (“Column on Christianity, Speaker Johnson was offensive,” published Nov. 19) urges The Courier-Herald to “arrest its leftward leaning” from his reading of Mr. Elfers’ column of the prior week (“The hypocrisy of Christian Rep. Johnson,” published Nov. 11).

Does Galvan not understand the intent of articles on the page clearly labelled “opinion”? He can disagree all he wants — that’s the beauty of our endangered democracy’s free speech and free press — but Elfers and The Courier-Herald can and should continue to express their views without apology.
