Letter to the Editor: Trumps foreign policy brings stability, not chaos

Reader Kristopher Galvin refutes a recent column about the Monroe Doctrine.

The piece by Rich Elfers in the Jan. 14 edition (“The revival of the Monroe Doctrine”) provides a good history for the “Monroe Doctrine” and the reasons why it’s in America’s interest to have it being reenergized under the current President. Well said!

However, I can’t agree with his opinion that “Trump’s (foreign policy) vision will likely create far more instability and become more dangerous than anything since the collapse of the USSR and the rise of China.” (By the way, thank you Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, and Pope John Paul II for bringing about the fall of the USSR and its communist satellites- if only they could help us now as we face the growing leftist threat within this country).

I can’t think of any extended period in U.S. history when there wasn’t some crisis or a festering problem that ultimately exploded into one. Certainly not during the Obama and Biden eras, when Iran was developing nukes and ballistic missiles and attacking Israel and U.S. forces through proxy terrorists, and when Russia was gnawing on the Ukraine, while the U.S. military grew weaker. The destructive schemes of Russia and Iran were propped up by unnecessarily high energy prices that slammed American households.

Crushing the Iranian nuclear weapons program, shutting down the invasion of the U.S. by millions of illegal aliens, and the reinvigorated U.S. military are all positive developments and we should celebrate the many peace treaties that the current administration has facilitated around the world. The now-lower oil prices help American households and hurt both Iran and Russia.

But the first prolonged period of earthly peace and stability won’t arrive until the second coming of Jesus Christ and His reign in the millennial kingdom (Revelation, chapters 19 and 20), and that will come after the seven worst years in world history. I encourage folks to enlist in the winning side, by accepting the offer of eternal life through faith in Jesus, and find some personal peace on Earth now.
