In reference to the Dec. 16 letter to the editor about the fire department, I can’t help but wonder what outgoing City Councilman (Richard) Elfers’ motivation is for writing this letter.
As has been the case for the past few decades, the vast majority of professional politicians believe that the citizens of America do not deserve a chance at self-government.
I read with dismay the article about the proposed fire tax rate increase for District 28 in the Dec. 14 Courier-Herald. It seems that in these tough economic times with tight budgets that the fire district could have shown some financial restraint.
The Arc of King County strongly supports our governor in recommending to the people that we increase revenues to save critical services to the most vulnerable people in our state.
I was disappointed and disturbed by Cathy Dahlquist’s article (Courier-Herald, Nov. 9) on her approach to the education of children in our state. I feel it would deemphasize the importance of education in Washington. It seems to be a lot more about saving a buck than educating a child.
It was with pride that we read of the outstanding behavior of the students from our town at the Tenino Marching Band Competition in last week’s paper.
Hurry! Hurry! Get a dose of autumn glory before it’s gone!
I love walking on Railroad Street in the fall. The trees are gloriously beautiful and light up my soul.
To Enumclaw residents,
Thank you so very much for supporting the high school sports teams’ efforts to raise money this fall. The response to the sale of the $20 discount cards was wonderful, especially the neighborhood around the high school.
Editor’s note: this letter is in response to a letter that appeared in the Oct. 26 edition.

The city of Enumclaw is currently holding budget workshops for the upcoming year. In terms of human services, the city is considering whether to fund Plateau Outreach Ministries, Enumclaw Youth Center, King County Sexual Assault Resource Center and the YWCA. All of these agencies provide very important services to the citizens of Enumclaw.
Mr. Brian Beckley’s column (Our Corner, Oct. 26) seems to be an attempt to convince the readers that we should all support the Occupy Wall Street movement.
I think the voters need to know about the volunteer efforts and serving heart of Darrel Dickson, one of the candidates running for Enumclaw’s City Council.
Once again election time is here and with it comes the commercials. We can’t turn on the television without seeing an abundance of campaign ads running over and over telling us who or what to vote for and their reasons why. I find many of these commercials touting us by whatever means to get our vote and if they have to outright lie, they do.
