Base Camp exhibit opens Friday at fair

The city of Enumclaw’s 16th annual Juried Art Exhibit, Base Camp, opens Thursday and runs through Saturday at the Enumclaw Expo Center during Enumclaw’s King County Fair.

The city of Enumclaw’s 16th annual Juried Art Exhibit, Base Camp, opens Thursday and runs through Saturday at the Enumclaw Expo Center during Enumclaw’s King County Fair.

A special section for children’s art-making will also be featured. An opening event will take place today, Wednesday, at the site of the exhibit. The opening is open to the public.

The exhibit will feature two- and three-dimensional work by artists who submitted photographs or slides of their work for consideration by the juror.

Juror for this year’s show is Esther Luttikhuizen, Collections Curator for the King County Public Art Collection. Luttikhuizen will review images for acceptance in the exhibit.

This year’s entries include sculpture, photography, paintings and multi-media works of art.

The level of professionalism is very high, said city of Enumclaw Cultural Programs Manager Gary LaTurner. Entrants are from the greater Seattle area. Artists are both immerging and well-known. BaseCamp is guaranteed to be an outstanding exhibit, LaTurner noted.

Entrants are competing for awards as follows:

• Puget Sound Energy First Place Purchase Award – $1,000. Artwork selected for this award becomes the property of the city of Enumclaw.

• Second Place – $600

• Third Place – $400

• Arts Alive! Iris McLaughlin Memorial Award – $500

• Arts Alive! Local Artist Award – $500

• People’s Choice Award. The amount of the award is based on visitor donations.

This year’s exhibition is generously funded by Puget Sound Energy, Arts Alive!, City of Enumclaw, 4 Culture, and Columbia State Bank.
