Enumclaw High School students perform with PLU Honors Band

Pierce Beigh, Naomi Eide and Gregory Rufener performed in the Pacific Lutheran University’s Northwest High School Honors Band. Enumclaw High School was well represented with five seniors attending and performing at the Pacific Lutheran University Northwest High School Honors Band Jan. 9 and 10. More than 75 high schools throughout the state were represented at the event. They are selected by their band director for their leadership and music abilities. The students performed in either Concert Band or Symphonic Band. Two seniors in the Concert Band performance were Danielle Millard, flute, and Evan Underbrink, euphonium. They performed under the direction of guest conductor Sarah McKoin, the director of bands at Texas Tech University. Also, pictured, performing in the Symphonic Band under the direction of guest conductor Dave Holsinger are from left Pierce Beigh, Percussion, Naomi Eide, Bassoon, and Gregory Rufener, Clarinet. Holsinger is an award-winning composer and conductor who teaches at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn. On Saturday, the following students from Enumclaw High School performed at Solo and Ensemble Contest at Tahoma High School in Maple Valley, Wash. Five students placed in their solo effort and four were selected to go to the Washington state contest which will take place April 24 and 25 at Central Washington Universty in Ellensburg, Wash. Selected for their performance for state are: Junior, David Schiff, trumpet, senior, Naomi Eide, bassoon, senior, Gregory Rufener, clarinet, sophonore, Sam Horn, tuba. Naomi Eide and Gregory Rufener also were selected for their duet for small woodwind ensembles for the third year in a row. They competed against 36 other contestants from Enumclaw, White River, Auburn and Kent High Schools. Also selected as second alternate for flute was freshmen Emma Pierce. The Enumclaw High School band director, in his first year at EHS, is Eric Stevens.
